HR outsourcing consultancy Smartree says that wages in the private sector rose by an average of 7 percent in the first half of this year compared to the same period of last year, mainly due to the increase of the minimum wage and possible negotiations between companies and employees.

The biggest increases in pay were recorded in the car parts manufacturing industry, pharma and software development, according to the Smartree Workforce Index. The number of employees grew on average by 13 percent in the same period on the back of the positive development of the economy.

“The industries in which employment was flat in the first half of the year we have textiles, constructions materials or financial services,” said Adrian Stanciu, CEO of Smartree.

The index further shows that Romanian employees took more days off and got more bonuses in the first half of the year.

The index is based on a survey of over 200 firms with a combined turnover of over EUR 2.5 billion.
