Romanians are more willing to travel and allocate more money for holidays, says Momondo.ro

Romanians are more willing to travel and discover new destinations and allocate more money for holidays compared with previous years, according to Mircea Giurca, general director for Romania of Momondo.ro, the travels search engine.

In top of the most searched destinations for city-breaks are Italy, Spain, Greece and UK.

“City-breaks, as type of travels, are quite popular among Romanian travelers. According to our international study about travels, 31 percent of them said they planned a city-break for 2017. The main attractions for Romanian travelers were the capitals, Rome, Barcelona, Athens and London.  Italy, Spain and UK are usually chosen for city-breaks, while Greece is mostly preferred for holidays,” said Giurca.

„When it comes about the most popular types of holidays among Romanian users, I observed that there is a diversity also in their searches on momondo.ro. They look for recommendations and experiences less known, even if it’s about classic destinations in Europe or more exotic,” added Giurca.

He underlined that in the last two years, Romanians were more open to travel and discover new destinations.

„This means a growth of the budget that they allocated for holidays, but especially of the total number of persons that chose to travel. We believe that one of the most important factors was the competition increase between airline companies, which led to extremely low prices for many destinations,” said Giurca.

Also, according to him, half of the Romanian tourists planed their holidays via travel sites.

Moreover, the interests in internal travels increased significantly this year.

„The number of internal flights of companies that operate at local level increase, as a result, prices are lower and more than ever, Romanians prefer to travel by plane.”
