Romania’s annual inflation posts positive rate in January, consumer prices up by 0.1 pct

The annual inflation rate was in positive territory in January, while the consumer prices went up by 0.1 percent compared with January 2016, on the back of the rise in prices of the food merchandises by 1.12 percent and of the reduction of non-food prices by 0.24 percent, according to the data of the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Also, in January 2017, the services tariffs went down by 1.08 percent.

The annual inflation rate in December 2016 was -0.5 percent, compared with December 2015.

„In January 2017 the merchandises and services that registered a drop in prices compared with January 2016 counted for a share of 27.6 percent and the ones with increases between 0-2.5 percent had a share of 60.6 percent. The merchandises and services whose prices went up by more than 2.5 percent own a share of 11.8 percent,” says the INS.

The average consumer prices increase in February 2016-January 2017 compared with the last 12 months, which is computed based on Price Consume Index is 1.4 percent.

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) estimates an inflation of 0.2 percent at the end of March, with an error of 0.5 percent up or down.
