Romania imported usable natural gas in the first semester of the year of 222,400 tones equivalent of crude oil, by 231.4 percent more (155,300 tep) than the quantity imported in the similar period of 2014, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), cited by Agerpres.
The internal production of natural gas amounted over 3.81 million tep in the first semester of the year, with 493,600 tep (11.5 percent) below the one from January-June 2015.
The Romanian Energy Strategy project 2015-20135, published by the Ministry of Energy, shows that Romania has the biggest reserves of natural gas from Central and Eastern Europe, with reliable reserves of 1,600 TWh.
„At an annual average production from Romania (11 billion cubic meters of natural gas) and in the conditions of a constant annual decline of five percent of the reliable natural gas reserves, associated with a replacement rate of natural gas reserves of 80 percent, the depletion of the current natural gas reserves is forecasted to take place in a period of approximately 14 years, ” says the Energy Strategy.
