The industrial production increased by 8.5 percent in January year on year, due to a surge in Romanian manufacturing sector, and the turnover index of industry rose 20.7 percent, National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed on Wednesday.
Compared to December 2017, the industrial production was down 2.8 percent as series adjusted by number of working days and seasonality.
Production in the manufacturing sector, the largest sector of Romania’s industry, rose 12.7 percent year on year, compensating for a 7.4 percent decline in electricity production.
Mining and quarrying rose 5.9 percent in January, according to official data.
The rise of the industrial production had a large impact on turnover of Romania’s industry, which surged 20.7 percent in January compared to January 2017.
The new orders in manufacturing increased by 21.5 percent compared to January 2017.
