Romania’s inflation rate climbs to 4.3 pct in January 2018, biggest level in close to four years

Romania’s inflation rate stood at 4.32 percent in January 2018, as gas prices gained 3.79 percent compared to December, according to the national Institute of Statistics.

Compared to January 2017, food prices gained 3.79 percent, non-food prices were up by 6.23 percent, while services gained 0.9 percent in prices. The prices for foods and vegetables had growth rates between 2.6 percent and 3.2 percent in the last month.

Fuel prices were up 2.42 percent in the last month.

News.ro points out that Romania’s inflation reached last month its biggest rate since July 2013.

The BNR forecasts an inflation rate of 3.5 percent for this year and 3.1 percent in 2019.
