Romanian tennis player and WTA No.1 Simona Halep defeated France’s Oceane Dodin in her first match at the Miami Open. The Romanian qualified to the third round of the tournament in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
After the World No 98, a qualifier, snatched the first set, Halep mounted a comeback to close the match in a little over two hours. Halep showed good form, but received a warning in the third set for her outburst that saw her hit the floor with the racquet in frustration.
With this win, Simona Halep improved to 7-1 in three-setters in 2018. Her record is now 19-2 for the season so far, her only losses coming in the final of the Australian Open and the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, last week.
Halep will play Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska in the third round of the Miami Open.
