The runways at the Henri Coanda International Airport Bucharest are in one of the worst shape possible and need quick fixing. The Pro Infrastructure Association has warned that the state of the runways is putting in danger the passengers. Today, the Minister of Transport, Lucian Sova, asked the management of the Airport for a clear timeline of the works for modernization of the first runway and for the interventions on the second one.

According to the management of the National Airport of Bucharest the maintenance work will begin on April 12 and includes the repair of degraded concrete slabs from platform 1 and the associated running paths, maintenance works on all running paths and a new asphalt layer. For runway 2 there are scheduled works for CAT III A beacon light.

Interventions will be conducted in stages, so that the flight operations will be affected as little as possible.

The Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority (AACR) has developed and will continue to carry out specific surveillance actions in accordance with the provisions of European Regulation 139 to maintain flight safety on AIHCB. AACR specialists regularly evaluate runways, runways and airport platforms.

At the same time, in order to maintain the safety of air operations, a current repair program at Henri Coanda airport has been carried out in the last years and 80 percent of the area has been replaced so far.
