President Klaus Iohannis has approved the appointment of Cristian Ghinea as the new minister of EU funds.

Ghinea was the proposal of PM Dacian Ciolos. He has previously worked as counselor of EU affairs for the current head of government.

Ghinea is replacing Aura Raducu, who resigned from the Ministry of EU funds, following a request from the PM.

The new minister is one of the founders of the Romanian Center of European Politics. The organization was created six years ago by Ghinea and Ciprian Ciucu, who also exited the center to pursue a career in politics.

Ghinea has been involved in a series of civic projects with organizations such as the Center for Independent Journalism and Freedom House.

He has over 8 years’ worth of experience in the media sector. Ghinea has studied EU governance at the London School of Economics.
