Chinese ride-sharing firm Didi Chuxing will invest and collaborate with European Taxify, a rival of US-based Uber Technologies, which is also present on the Romanian market.

Didi has over 400 million users in more than 400 cities. Taxify offers taxi- and private car-hailing services to over 2.5 million users in major hubs across 18 countries, including Hungary, Romania, the Baltic States, South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya. The company was launched in Estonia in 2013.

Markus Villig, founder and CEO of Taxify, said: “Taxify will utilize this partnership to solidify our position in core markets in Europe and Africa. We believe DiDi is the best partner to help us become the most popular and efficient transport option in Europe & Africa.”

Didi took over Uber China in August 2016.  In Romania, Uber has operations in several cities, including the Romanian capital Bucharest. It reported around 250,000 users at the beginning of the year.
