The number of Romanians whose homes are connected to the sewer system increased last year by 2.4 percent to 9.7 million, representing 49.1 percent of the resident population, according to a report published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
In 2015, 9.47 million Romanians had their homes connected to the sewer systems, representing 47.7 percent of the resident population of Romania. “In 2016, 9.7 million inhabitants had their homes connected to sewer systems, representing 49.1 percent of the residential population of Romania,” the INS data shows.
Moreover, the number of inhabitants whose homes are connected to the swear system with sewage system plants increased last year by 3.6 percent year-on-year, up to 9.42 million, representing 47.7 percent of the resident population of the country.
Compared to last year, in 2016 the length of the sewer network increased by 2.651 kilometers, up to 34,353 kilometers. Moreover, the length of the drinking water distribution network was of 79,678 kilometers, 2,733 kilometers more than the previous year.
